Mediation defined
Mediation is a method of conflict resolution in which, under the guidance of a mediator, participants resolve their conflict or problem. The essential characteristics of mediation are:
- the parties engage in a mutual conversation and they themselves are responsible for the outcome;
- the discussion is centered around the parties’ mutual interests;
- the mediator is in charge of the process and structures the conversation to promote a constructive conversation between the parties.
